76 KB Let us Mourn the Lost Anonymous 02/28/09(Sat)01:10 No.466880
I brought him to school one day maybe a year after I bought him, and then his left leg started falling out. Within about two weeks, it fell off. My mother tried to help me fix him, but it was too late. The Predacon leader was a cripple.

Fast forward to about two years ago. I take him out of storage for the first time since he broke. Memories come flooding back.

I transform him a couple times, to get a feel for him. His leg is much more stable in dinosaur mode, so after experimenting with him in robot mode, I make to transform him back.

His torso won't rotate, properly, though. I rearrange his holster and try again.

Snap.

I still have his pieces. Torso, right leg and crotch, and his left leg. I'm not skilled enough to repair him, and I can't bring myself to throw him out.

When the 10th anniversary figures came out a while back, I hunted for that Megatron. I could only find the green and burgundy one. A fine toy in its own right, but a poor replacement for a childhood friend.

The Predacons are leaderless. Megatron is dead.

So, tell me, /toy/, who have you lost?

didnt come with the 4 cannons new outta the box, dont know what happened to them; most kids would have never touched it again but i kept playing with my gun less x-wing; eventually, the r2 on top started to stick (you press him down to expand the wings). then one day, the top right wing just broke off, a few days later the other right wing. it's still in my closet, can't bring myself to throw it out or get one with the guns

Loads of digimon toys that broke in storage.

It made me dislike buying the transforming onces. The action figure ones are solid though.

I also hate it when teachers take things and don't return them. I had the minicomic that came with batprime, and croc megs taken, and never returned.

I replaced it but its in Spanish or something now.

I have that Megatron.

I haven't seen it since the late 90's, but if I'm not mistaken it's in storage and missing the tail.
As he just looks stupid without it, I'll have no use for it.

You can always e-mail me so I can have your e-mail address just in case I find it in the coming months, because I can give you a replacement

I had that toy, too! Only a part snapped off inside and it didn't transform anymore, so at 12 I performed some emergency surgery and removed all of Andromon's big brown kibble, leaving me with a fairly good regular Andromon action figure, only his feet were brown and blocky in the back because Digimon transformers cheated all the time like that.

My Monev the Gale took a fall from a high up shelf, snapping one of his hands off. I was able to fix that with some glue, but having paid around $70 for it I wasn't too happy.

More recently, TF Animated figs, and loosing/breaking parts on the day I get them. The little blue flap that covers Ultra Magnus's sound button is presumably lost in the couch. Swoop's mace has a broken link due to me thinking the orange parts popped out on the ball. Even as a child I grasped that it was ridiculous of me to expect my parents to dig through the vacuum cleaner bag for a half-handful of Legos or a Zbot. If it was something expensive or meaningful I'd ask them, but damn.
>> Anonymous 02/28/09(Sat)14:54 No.467574
When I was a child, I loved my Optimus Prime like nothing else in the world. Right up until I went to school he was my very best imaginary friend, and we would go on fantastic adventures every day, thwarting the Decepticons and saving the day. Even when I entered school and made lots of real friends, Optimus was always there when we played with our newer, less dinged-up toys, and he always won.

Eventually I stopped playing with him, but packed him away lovingly, wrapped up with bubble wrap and placed in a big wooden box where I used to keep all my old baseball cards. He was put up in the attic with all the other trappings of my childhood, and I quickly stopped thinking about him.

Just last year, I was visiting my parents with my sister, and we went up to the attic to fetch some blankets. Lo and behold, what do I find up there, staring me in the face, but a big box labeled "ANONYMOUS' TOYS". I flip out and bring it downstairs, cutting open the tape, and every item in the box brings back a wave of nostalgia. My Turtles, my old He-Man stuff that I got at a flea market with my grandma for like two dollars, those little uncolored rubber wrestlers. But then I saw, sitting at the bottom of the cardboard box, the wooden case I had sealed Prime away in all those years ago.

(cont.)
>> Anonymous 02/28/09(Sat)14:55 No.467576
>>467574

I wasted no time opening the box and unwrapping the many layers of packing I had put him in, only to have my heart broken clear in two when I saw the state Prime lay in. Some unknown combination of moisture and heat in the attic had apparently caused all his metal parts to rust up, and the plastic of his legs had in fact rotted clear off his body. My old buddy was no longer salvageable, rusted away beyond all repair.

I didn't break down and cry or anything like that. I just packed him back up with his gun and his trailer, and left him out when I was putting all my toys back in the attic.

That night, after eating dinner with my parents, I told them I was going out for a while. I grabbed Prime's wooden box, got in my car, and drove down to the beach near my house where I had played with him every day as a boy.

Standing at the water's edge, I removed the lid from his casket and looked at his stern, unmoving face one more time. Then I gave old Optimus the only appropriate sendoff I could think of. I put the box into the water, tentatively at first, but it floated well enough. Soaking it and its contents in lighter fluid, I gave it a gentle push and it began to drift slowly out of my reach. I tossed a match into it, then another, and finally I saw a bright orange flame leap from the box.

I watched as what was left of my oldest friend drift out to sea, his funeral pyre lighting up the night until it burned up enough wood for the box to take on water and sink. As I watched the last cinders being extinguished by the cold Atlantic sea, I'm not sure what made me salute, but that's what I did.

I like to think I gave old Prime a pretty good sendoff, and that if toys had spirits his would be in Valhalla right now, fighting one-armed Megatrons until the end of time.

OH MY GOD

THIS

So, I was never *too* into transformers until Beast Wars; it was the first series that I had experienced the whole of. I had been too young for the other series, so Beast Wars was a perfect hook. I watched most of the episodes in a haphazard order, but damn did I notice when they got new toys in.

I remember one day, I was with my mother at Wal-Mart when I noticed new transformers and one was a dinosaur! Holy fuck, did I love that thing at first sight.

I hoped and hoped, and months later, my birthday rolled around. It was a pretty pricey toy, $40 if I remember correctly, and my mother and I were experiencing some rough times. When I opened that present, I almost died.

I played with that thing for years after I got it, but one fateful night took it away from me forever.

I was with my mother and a friend of hers at dinner; they were catching up and I was playing with my dinosaur transformer. After transforming it for at least fifty times that night, I managed to break his left arm off.

I cried for hours. After that, I couldn't ever play with it again. It just... didn't feel right.

I've lost it since then, most likely to a garage sale, but there is nothing that can ever replace that toy. In fact, the loving memory of that toy and the Dinobot threads on /toy/ are what got me dinobot and a newfound love for transformers.

If they EVER re-release this, I am buying ten of them.

I used to repair and restore vintage Transformers toys. I actually quite enjoyed it and would sell the extras I ended up with mainly so I could afford to buy more parts lots and broken Transformers to repair (this also spread into other toy lines at times... like the Voltron toys). It's been a while but I still know a lot of tricks and techniques to fixing a lot of the toys. If anyone fellow /toy/ soldiers need my services, I may be able to offer them (it all depends on the damage most of the time, really).

My Megatron suffered the same fate two years ago. I was transforming it and it broke at the waist. For a moment I was sad, but then I hauled my ass downstairs and fixed it up with some superglue. My Megatron was back to his fully transformable glory.

Last summer I returned home from my first year of university to find out my brother had gone into my cupboard furniture-thingy where I keep my Transformers. Not only had he played with over half of my collection (including my first transformers ever) and stolen a book, he had re-broken Megatron in such a way that it can’t be fixed again.

This pisses me off for several reasons, other that the obvious one:
1: A fourteen year old kid should know that going into someone else’s personal space and fucking around with their stuff is wrong.
2: He had promised to both me and my parents that he wouldn’t do anything like at that again after being caught red-handed stealing stuff from my room.
3: He knows I’m picky about other people touching my Transformers stuff.
4: He often DOES NOT WASH HIS HANDS AFTER TAKING A SHIT.

Tell me about it. The thing he took from my room before was the Monty Python Meaning of Life script book. It's a huge book with the script of the movie, full-page photographs, and the like. My mom had given it to me as a birthday present a couple years back, and I kept it in good condition over that time. When I got it back from my brother the cover was bent and bits of pages were ripped out from him reading it in bed and then falling asleep and rolling over it. He was told to buy me a brand new replacement as punishment. This Christmas he tried to pass the replacement off as his present to me. The book was second hand, dirty and wasn't even the right size!

$40 for a dinobot? what kind of dollars are we talking about here?
>> Anonymous 03/01/09(Sun)03:12 No.468790
You Canadians should stop calling your currency 'dollars' as if it's anywhere near as good and just call it 'Canadian pesos'.

When I was younger, I always wanted Transformers, but my parents would never buy me any. One day, out of complete surprise, my friend bought me a G2 Sizzle for my birthday. (Until recently, I had always assumed it was an off-brand Transformer due to how obscure he is, but I loved him anyhow) I took very good care of him. Since I wasn't paying attention when I transformed him the first time, I could never figure out how the sword stored in his vehicle mode. It would turn up occasionally, but overall spent most of it's time lost.

One fateful day about 10 years later, my little brother and I were playing in the basement. While digging through my toybox, I found Sizzle, missing his legs and with his light pulled out. Apparently, my brother had got his hands on it at some point.

He'll never light up again and he'll never again wield his blade in battle. Now, my faithful friend lives in my room, waiting for the day his legs turn up again. (or until I find someone selling one online that accepts a payment form besides Paypal, so I can do a limb transplant)

When I was 8, I was in my sandbox playing with G1 Inferno and then my mom's boyfriend came outside, bludgeoned me with a wrench, threw my transformers away and beat me up.

Shit sucked, he also threw away all of my small ones.

Kill the brat.

Old news are old. She's such a materialist bitch, she goes on destroying HIS stuff for a fucking wedding ring. That little piece of metal has absolutely no value apart from symbolical worth. Star Wars toys are different. Even tho i'm never going to buy an SW toy.

I saw the Clone Wars droideka the other day, and the packaging is so small he comes with his arms detached from the body. If i wanted to put my toys together, i'd be buying LEGOs, not SW.

My brother moved out the other day and I was going through his closet and found his old G1 Starscream that he gave me when I was a little brat, then took back about two years ago.
I was so happy to see it again; I could still remember how to transform him, even after ten years of not doing so, but when I tried to transform him his left leg popped off and can't fit back in properly.
Now I'm stuck with my poor Gimpscream.
