Spoonfed way : tell about your music tastes music in general, and ask nicely for some recommandations

And the concerts are good start also (there is one of the 39 giving day with the lyrics in nyaatorrents, I would recommend that if you don't speak japanese)

A thread on /jp/ where people are nice and helpful regarding something Vocaloid related? Haven't seen one of these in a while. All these kind anons have pretty much told you all I would. Definitely look at those charts they posted.

Another good site to check out is http://mikudb.com/. They have tons of albums you can download. Just listen to a bunch. After a while, you'll start to get a sense for it. The more time you invest in it, the more you'll understand.

The day will come when you'll start listening to a new Miku song and before checking who made it you'll think to yourself "I bet this was made by X." and sure enough you'll be right.
