If you were using a real OS as the host, you'd find most of those supposed issues disappear.

>>20747062

Bullshit.

The virtual machine hook is probably running a module on your kernel. KVM, VMWare and Virtualbox does. Xen as the hyperivisor. All of them have godmode access to your hardware and OS.

Most common attachs revolve around reading or inserting data on the host's memory, which can affect both the host and the other operating systems running on that host.

Show an attack that works in patched software then.
>> Anonymous 10/23/11(Sun)21:08 No.20747175
>>20747118

Doesn't matter if you are running a real or toy OS. The monitor or hypervisor have too much access to the system to avoid a disaster.

Best alternative would be running something like UserMode Linux or Qemu with limited user access.

>>20747141

Better yet. Take a good time reading this paper: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/reference/Virtual_Machine_Threats.pdf

It only goes into detection methods. There's no publicly known unpatched escape attacks. Of course, things like shared folders are only as secure as the guest OS.

(Also I'd appreciate it if 4chan stopped eating my posts.)

Yeap. But I think it doesn't matter if it is unpatched or not. OP clearly wants to infect the machine with malware just to see what happens. It may be bad idea to do so while running a virtual machine monitor with full access to the Linux kernel and hardware.

What kind of monitor or hypervisor OP is using anyway?
