One year ago today, I went on a run at 3 in the morning. I had been out of my university for several months - dropping out due to depression - and had spent my time eating McDonald's and laying in bed. Following my run, I hopped back into bed and went to sleep. When I awoke, I weighed myself - and my journey to fitness began.

I have posted my progress pics on /fit/ before. But Ive never posted ALL of them. Since today is my one year /fit/aversary I feel like posting as many as I can. The following photos are all my standard progress photo taken on the 9th, 10th, or 11th of each month - first thing in the morning. I have other photos as well, but these 12 should be enough.

Questions, comments, trolls- welcome!

Unfortunately, I did not take a picture for July 2010. I can say that on July 10th I weighed 229lbs.

So this picture is instead of me in August at 219lbs

I had, following my run, signed up for my university's gym (free) and began to go and do cardio everyday (treadmill/exercise bike). I rarely would use machines for some basic lifting.

By september, I felt like a regular to my uni's gym. I was going everyday, and I felt pretty knowledgeable (I wasnt). I began to lift more and more - again using ONLY machines. I continued to do cardio but in lesser ammounts. My time in the gym bumped up to an hour a day.

I should note: I never took a rest day unless I was sick.

October remained much the same as September. At first it was weird occupying the gym with so many other students - as the summer showed me an empty gym with usually only 2-3 other people. Now I had to deal with lots of people - though only the cardio machines were ever completely full.

I weighed 198.2 in october

November. I began to use dumbbells for various exercises. I created my first 'routine' which I have basically stuck to ever since. The routine saw me doing my first ever Abdominal exercise.

Pull day
Core day
Push day
Leg day
Repeat

Still no resting!

During all this time I was getting a lot of my nutrition from protein bars/shakes and chicken. I rarely went over 1800 calories and I NEVER accepted sweets/treats/snacks at a party, club meeting, etc. I was fucking dedicated! I also was eating every 3-4 hours (still do usually).

At this time i began using myfitnesspal.com

December saw little new changes in routine/diet.

Fall semester came to a close, and for the first time since middle school I got good grades (im intelligent - but I never did homework or projects in highschool). The dedication to the gym translated to dedication to my work!

My lightest weight. Having started at 245.6lbs on June 9th 2010, on March10th 2011 I weighed 153.6lbs - 93lbs lost.

2 days later I went on spring break and cheated CONSTANTLY but I continued lifting. From this point forward I allowed myself to cheat and began to lift heavier. I also lowered my reliance on machines and upped my reliance on freeweights.

Im finally gonna start a real routine on monday (im sick right now and Im not gonna try deadlifting this weekend) with a lean bulk (2800 calories mostly veggies, chicken, steak, etc). Im gonna go back to running everyday so that my heart health will get better.

Thanks for the help youve given me these past few months /fit/ Fuck you to all the fags who whined about having a core day, or not following their diet advice, or not doing starting stregnth. I turned out just fucking fine.

You'll notice in some of the late pics I have a 'fat pouch' under my abs. Its covering my lower abs and therefore 8 pack. Im about 10% bfp so I wonder if i lost the weight if it would be loose skin or not. As Ive put on muscle (especially on my hamstrings) the little bits of hanging flab/skin tightened up. I do still have stretchmarks and that sucks but they have lightened up a bit.

Well done OP, very motivating to see such progress.

Start with some starting-strength stuff... really just focus on getting form down - as long as you put in the effort you'll noob gains will show nicely..... 2 months or so in once you plateau, switch to a hypertrophy split.... I'm a fan of:

Having always been on a cut im quite weak. This is why I will be doing starting aesthetics on a lean bulk for the summer. Since mid-may Ive continued to lift frequently but with rest days every 2 days. Ive also lowered the ammount of sets i do and upped the weights.

In the past I would do a lot of exercises. I mean A LOT. And Id do a lot of sets, all to 15 for them. While it helped with weight loss and endurance it was never going to make me stronger.

In the beggining it was strictly cardio. I was in the gym roughly 20-30 minutes and I would be jogging. In february I jogged 10 minutes every day. Now I do cardio when I feel like it, but thats pretty fucking rare. After I ran my fastest mile ever (6:28 - compared to my fastest in highscool of 7:46 and normally around 8/9) I basically started running on occasion.

I fucking hate cardio, its so boring.

I was doing cardio daily, and began using machines daily. I eventually did a routine of pull, core, push, legs. No rest days. Cardio never exceeded 25 minutes of jogging, but somedays id jog, walk, jog, walk etc.

Well when I first went on a run at 3am it was because at the time I was somewhat nocturnal. I had restless legs that night (due likely to the $12 worth of McDonalds I ate earlier)

For a little while (june/july) my motivation was this girl I though I was in love with. Then when I finally realized what a little bitch I had always been around her (beta as fuck) I decided I would never want to have to work for a woman again. I wanted to be healthy and wanted to look good enough that women would want me.

I never though I would get to a six pack.

Ironically, my best friend (who also lifts) gave me Optimum nutrition whey (2lbs) and the book 'The Abs Diet' for my birthday last year as a show of support for my effort - I had told him the day after I started going to the gym I wanted to lose "some" weight. I never expected to be below 200lbs.

But as I grew thinner and began to feel more healthy (walking up stairs and not being winded) my motivation for healthy living grew. Around march it got to the point where I could 'mire myself in the mirror - that alone was the most motivating thing in the world.

In February I applied for a position as an intern at my gym.
There were 120 applicants and 20 intervews.
I got interviewed and then went on spring break sure i didnt get the posistion (only one spot).

Baked/Grilled Chicken breast was my primary real source of protein, though other lean meats (filet mignon omg) were occasionally ingested.

I can understand not eating fish, also I'm allergic to shellfish but the omega3 in flax is shittier since it is mostly ALA which only has a ca. 5% conversion rate in the body to EPA and DHA. If you don't want fish oil get some SEAL oil. EPA and DHA are the awesome omega3s

But a good example would be dumbbell OHP 40lb dumbbells (80 total)- 8 reps , 3 sets. Low? Yes. Will it be better by the end of my summer bulk? Yes. Absolutely yes.

A the beginning of may it was only 30 each (60). Ever since I started it was always around 20 or 25 each. But by eating more in may and doing less sets and better form it grew much faster than ever before. Thats the power of dirty bulk cheat meals :)
