The natural sowing depth is on the surface. Chances are, sowing them 1/4th of an inch under the soil will result in superior yield. As long as the seed is completely surrounded by soil, it will have a better chance.

>> Anonymous 06/03/11(Fri)02:38 No.1010597
Damn it OP, dig one up already. 2 weeks without sprouting and I'm guessing they're dead.

If they were dried beans, you did fine rehydrating them in water, that red stuff may have been nutrients held on an outside coating to provide the energy necessary to grow up and break through the surface to start harvesting sunlight for energy as it grows roots.

They're either dead or awaiting a frost, and I think it's stupid to pay $3 for that shit from a bum when you can get seed for 40 stalks of corn for $1.50

Day 16:

I uncovered some of the peat on two of them and they are still there. Haven't sprouted yet.

>> Anonymous 06/05/11(Sun)05:38 No.1012161
This is actually a notoriously common scam amongst bums. We got a lot of them in my area, so I'm used to this happening, allow me to explain...

You see, spring time is mating season for bums, except they don't mate like typical mammals...

The "beans" that bum gave you were not in fact beans, but larvae. You see, bums are capable of reproducing by themselves, but can't nurture their young, so they'll often give them away in their pre-developed stages as "magical beans" due to their resemblance to such. The only thing that's going to happen once the larvae, or "beans", develop is that the infant bums will mature and you'll begin to notice a lack of food and silverware around your house. The best course of action would be to burn them, OP. They tend to stick around as they get older, you don't want that.

OP just got a pic from the internet that looked like his seeds.

Good god that photo is beautiful. Where was that taken and who was the photographer? I've been staring at it in awe for like 10 minutes now.

I spent a few minutes googling variations of beans, seeds, etc. Not once did that photo come up. What are the odds he googled and happened to find the seeds of the exact plant he has? It was the first result for the type of plant it is (the flapping one) and the site was in spanish. It wouldn't have come up for random words like 'bean.'

Anyway, I'm going to pretend that OP- who works at a nursery- took a guess at what they are and got it right.

different skeptic here. OP image of beans doesn't show up when you search for "magic beans" on google images.

the fact that it does show up when you search for the plant's name is telling. it's also telling that the OP revealed he has a terrarium of plants that eat insects... because this site, where the bean/seed image comes from (already linked above)
http://www.karnivores.com/en/sensitive-plants-sale/seeds/codariocalyx-motorius-desmodium-gyrans
specifically deals with those kinds of plants, see header image
