Seems to be a trend, having non-neuronormative people in anime lately. Then again, Japan is just so weird its hard to tell if someone has an actual disorder or is just Japanese.

Aspergers? I liked it when it was considered a proper medical condition (and, i point out, it is considered a medical condition and not a psycological one because... shit... i think it's something stupid like it was discovered by a doctor not a psych)

Wheras nowadays it's y'know, joined dyslexia, ADD, ADHD and a shitton others as an excuse by lazy little shits to 'not be at fault' for being, of course, lazy little shits.

Seriously... i have to teach the fuckers and you soon learn which ones have an honest-to-god condition and which are just riding the train. (Hint: If they're 'self diagnosed' they're little shits. If they're diagnosed by a single private or 'educational' psychologist they're little shits. If they're diagnosed by multiple third-party types then... yeah, they probably do have a condition... That or mummy and daddy are rich enough to buy off several experts at once.)

Tips to spotting frauds:
1) Hideous spelling IRL (ie: not on IRC 'n shit like that).
Every kid with an actual condition i've met tend to have pretty good spelling. Why? Because they know they have trouble and WORK TO FIX IT. be it by using spellchecks or getting people to pre-read their work.
>> Anonymous 04/14/08(Mon)15:24 No.10928808
>>10928787
continued

2) Acting like retards.
Most kids with an actual condition i've met are practially goddamn angels in the classroom. Yeah they have their moments, but it's usually only when something sets them off - never seen one act like a little shit all the time unless they were a fraud.

3) use of the term 'Aspie', or any vague reference to that bullshit 'creation story' some twat came up with.
Kill them. Kill them with fire. Again, the vast majority of people who have conditions don't tend to talk about them much and, if they do, it's usually one or two mentions to let you know and then never again. They don't whine on and on about being one (which, co-incidentally, always seems to occur when a kid hasn't done any fucking work... surprise suprise)

As the phrase goes... Dox or it didn't happen. If they don't have proof - they're faking it.
And i say this as an aspergic with proof (according to the documents it's a serious case too) who really, really fucking hates the utter shits that use conditions - any condition - as excuses for their own failures in life.
I'm a teacher, i have a goddamn degree, if i can manage this shit then they damn well can - wether they have a condition or not.

As to Haruhi? She's high on life man, high on life. (and by 'life' i mean mind-altering drugs)

No, the guy who first described Asperger's was a child psychologist.

Although, it's technically not a syndrome, and arguably not a real illness because there isn't a known cause. It's just a list of symptoms.

Pediatrician actually, that makes him medical not psych, I remember I had to be diagnosed by a psych, but had to have all the dox double-checked and signed off by a medical doctor before it was a legal diagnosis.

>>10928832
Not being funny, thus laughing is not the point. 's just shit i've observed as a teach who deals with a bunch of such kids. (and my few forays into places aspergics gather, which frankly disgusted me enough to never bother again since it was blindingly obvious a good 90% of 'em were emo-kids trying to justify their failure at life)

>>10928887
No copypasta, like i said - shit i've observed teaching such kids. Obviously not at a 'special needs' school 'cuz otherwise i'm sure i'd be seeing a lot more crap.
But really, you hear the excuse 'i couldn't do my homework because i've got....' enough times and anyone'd snap (especially when you, as their teacher, get all the flak for them not doing the work)

>>10928892
Personally i've never had meds for it, nor for depression either. Whether either condition is real or not i'm pretty certain drugs aren't the way anyway - they always seem to make shit worse to me.

The "creation story" bit makes me think that it is, in fact, talking about Asperger's. It's a reference to Aspergia, a shitty online community that's basically Asperger otherkin, where they talk about how they're pure of soul or descended from Atlanteans or some shit.

Wrongplanet is one of the more decent online Asperger's communities, and they rib on Aspergia all the time. NOBODY really takes Aspergia seriously, for serious.

yeah it was, i've had the odd kid (btw, these are like teenage kids here, around 15-18 usually) quote it at me though - which promptly made me despise the little bastards. (For good reason too, one of the fucks handed in an empty folder for one of his other classes and when he was failed for it claimed 'special needs' excuses and somehow managed to pass.)

There probably are some actually decent places where aspergic people talk though, but far too many are over-run with the failures.

Fact: People with Asperger's are still people, and some of them will be fucktards. Just because someone with Asperger's doesn't fit your ideal of how someone with Asperger's should act doesn't mean she doesn't have it. If she was diagnosed with Asperger's, then she has Asperger's. If you have Asperger's, quit being an elitist fuckstick. first of all, 10928943 was NOT me, neither was the link, i was assuming (like you do all the time) you were talking about my post, 10928892, and not the one that correctly called you a drama queen, now shut the fuck up. "mental illness" are a mixed bag, while most of them are true like depression correctly diagnoses the imbalance of chemicals in your brain (though it's still stupid, you can call happiness a mental illness as well then because of chemicals ) and autism and schzophrenia, some of them are just natural parts of the human body. no, i'm not a scientoloogist, those idiots believe all mental illness are shams...

Agreed.

There's a difference between being 'an asshole' and playing 'the retard'. It's usually authority figures who are in the best position to see the difference though.

It's like...
An honest case might not know, say, a school rule for instance because to them it's not immediately obvious - but once called on it the first time, they do know it and follow it.

A faker would, on the other hand, break the rule over and over and each time claim 'i didn't understand it'

Basically you've got to decide... are they a real case who is also an asshole, or are they an asshole faking their case? Usually very tricky to spot unless their either blindingly obviously faking (self-diagnosed eh?) or you know what you're looking for.

Haruhi does not have Asperger's. She's able to intuit others thoughts through nuance and body language like everyone else. She just doesn't care.

She developed her issues as a way of dealing with that existential crisis in the stadium. If she has anything, it's a personality disorder.
